Nintendo Software

Activity Log

The activity log is a stock application that comes with retail units. The application allows you to review various statistics about the step counter and your gaming habits.

The opening screen shows the total number of steps recorded as well as the total number of titles used.

The application is split into two sections, the daily records and the software library.

Daily Records #

The daily records have two submodes, graph view and list view.

Home Menu

The Home Menu is the heart of the Nintendo 3DS. From there one can start games, applications, and access various processes including the friends list. It is launched by NS, and is always running in the background in 3DS-mode except when other programID-high 00040030 applications like Internet Browser, Friend-List, etc are running. Home Menu is still running while System Settings is running, however the System Settings application does not allow directly returning to home-menu. The system will normally re-launch Home Menu when the Home Menu process crashes/terminates. When this re-launch occurs while Home Menu is active, Home Menu displays an error message which says to manually reboot the system.

Nintendo 3DS Sound

Nintendo 3DS Sound is the music playing and audio recording application that is included with all retail consoles.

Voice Recorder #

Like its predecessor for the DSi, up to 10-second recordings can be stored, with limited integration of those with other software.

Practically speaking, the single page of internal storage is for DSi-mode software, and the 10 pages of SD card storage are for 3DS software (like Flipnote Studio 3D).

SpotPass

SpotPass is a Nintendo 3DS feature that allows the 3DS to automatically download content, notifications, and software when it’s in standby mode.(SpotPass may download/upload some content while the 3DS is in “active” mode, but *only* if the currently active app uses SpotPass) SpotPass can upload content as well. Software downloaded with SpotPass is stored on SD card.

SpotPass Internet communications are mostly HTTPS transfers.

In System Settings, you can disable SpotPass automatic title downloading, but it states that important software will still downloaded.(This only disables downloading of free titles via SpotPass)

StreetPass

StreetPass is a feature that allows your 3DS to connect with other 3DS consoles using WiFi in standby mode. It can be used to share Mii(s) on Mii Plaza for example. Applications’ StreetPass data are stored in the CECD module’s NAND savegame, applications can move received StreetPass data to an arbitrary savegame. Wifi infrastructure with APs are used to communicate where the data-frames are encrypted with WPA2 CCMP, like UDS/ Download Play.
